A SENSE OF PLACE
Have you ever wondered why Bath Street isn't on the Bath side of town? What is cheap about Cheap Street? Or why Gentle Street isn't gentle? If so, this is the walk for you. Your guide will explore the origins and folklore of local place names including buildings, streets and pubs and of course the name ‘Frome’ itself, taking in the development of the English language and the history of the town along the way. Led by local historian and storyteller Lisa Kenwright. Mostly pavement but please be aware that our route will include some steep cobbled streets. There are some steps but a step-free alternative route is available. Your guide will provide an informative and entertaining commentary along the way, as you take in the sights and sounds of Frome.
Historic Landmarks
Frome has an extraordinary 370 Grade 1 and Grade 2 listed buildings, more than any town in Somerset. Per head of population, Frome has more listed buildings than Bath!
